Response to Questions:

Q: Is there a limit on the percentage of overhead that the foundation allows schools to charge to the grant?
A: There is no set limit for overhead. Too much overhead, however, might be deemed undesirable to the jury.

Q: In the case of a studio that is being co-taught, can both faculty names appear on the application, or should there be a single contact person?
A: There should be a primary contact person.

Q: Could you also clarify if images can be included?
A: Images can be included in your submissions as long as the submission does not exceed the required number of pages.

Q: When describing background of faculty applicant, should we disclose the name of the faculty and the school?
A: Yes, please provide the name of the faculty and the school when describing your background.

Q: We are in the process of establishing a multi-year relationship which would form the basis for a very innovative form of academically-framed architectural travel. Is it significant to note that the project might grow into a regular program rather than a one-off? The money requested would not support the foreign school, only our students and professor's work.
A: It would be informative to note that the Rotch Studio funds would be related to a larger study-abroad initiative. We cannot predict, however, if the jury for the Rotch Studio would view this as a positive or not: each year the jury is composed of different people each year.

Q: Last year, the first version of the relationship noted above was in part supported by the German Academic Exchange Program. Is it of any benefit to mention that this has already been supported?
A: Similar to the above response, it would be helpful to understand the proposal in full, but the jury's reaction to the information is not predictable.

Q: The Department of Architecture has currently two significant modalities for academic travel, one based on a design-build model in developing economies and the other, the partnership referred to above. May both programs be submitted to the Rotch program or is it considered disadvantageous for a school to compete against itself?
A: I do not think that there is a disadvantage for one school to submit more than one proposal. It would give the jury a wider range of proposals from which to choose.
