Endowment

The stipend was initially set at $1,000 per year for two years of travel abroad. In 1912 it was adjusted to $1,100 per year, and increased slightly each year until 1936, when the Trustees and the Committee were agreed that a larger amount would be more productive of good to the holder of the Scholarship, and that two years was a long time for the scholar to be away from active touch with work and professional activities in this country.

The winner of the 2009 competition will receive $37,000 for a minimum of eight months travel and study abroad including a payment of $3,500 upon the completion of the Scholar's travels and the submission of a satisfactory report which becomes part of the permanent archives of the Scholarship.
