Key Criteria for the Evaluation of the Project

The Rotch Travelling Scholarship juries are directed toward a “search for evidence of imaginative capacity” in the design projects submitted. While each design program offers its own specific design opportunities and challenges, the following criteria are the basis for evaluation of the proposals.

  • Strong organizing conceptual principle or thesis

  • Quality of poetic and/or philosophical rationale for proposed solution

  • Inventiveness of proposed solution

  • Effective development of structure, circulation, and materials

  • Response to site and context

  • Representation of a complete architectural project, both physically and conceptually

  • Quality, completion, clarity and effectiveness of presentation
